How to Plan Your Kid’s Birthday Party and Have Fun Doing It!

Every year, you get another chance to plan the perfect party for your little ones. This year, take the stress out of planning your kids birthday party and get started now. That way, when the day comes, you’ll be able to relax and have fun at the party. To help simplify your planning, all it takes is a little organization and planning. Here is a handy checklist that we hope helps!

Theme

Ask your child what kind of party they would like to have. Do they want a superhero at-home party? Or a ballerina party at a trampoline park? It is a good idea to do this several weeks in advance so you can keep your eyes peeled for deals that match the theme. If you wait until the last minute, you’ll be stuck with whatever you can find at the moment, and it can get expensive.

Invitation List

Develop your invitation list. Do you want to openly invite your kid’s entire class and soccer team or will you limit it to close friends and family? This will help develop the activities you will do as some games work better with smaller groups while live entertainment is better for bigger crowds. Don’t forget to invite friends and family who don’t live close but will still want to feel included, like Grandma in Colorado.

Book the Entertainment

Be sure to select and book entertainment as early as possible. You don’t want to find out the week before the party that your entertainment selection is not available. This will also allow you to find out if they have any space or setup requirements that you should know about before party day.

Select a Date

Select a date, closest to your child’s birthday that is a good day for party guests to attend your party. It is always better to host a birthday party the weekend before rather than the weekend after the actual birthday if it falls on a weekday. If there are specific people that your child wants present — a best friend or an out of town family member — make sure the date works for them!

Send Invitations

We recommend that the invitations you send be creative and should clearly express the theme of the party. If you are hosting the party at an outside location, such as a family entertainment center, include facility details and cost (if you are asking your guests to pay their own way). Include an RSVP to let people let you know if they are coming and how many they will be bringing along.

Plan for Supplies

The first step is to make the itinerary of events and plan the menu. Then you can make a list of supplies and groceries that you will need and then begin buying items as you find them. If you have close friends or family members that will be helping, see what they have on hand before purchasing all new items.

Day Prior Preparation

The day(s) before your kid’s birthday party are the time to put in the work. If you are hosting the party at your house, thoroughly clean your home and childproof your home — if it isn’t already. Go grocery shopping and make any of the food that needs to be refrigerated or doesn’t need to be fresh. Prepare goody bags for guests and follow-up on people who didn’t RSVP.

Party Day!

When party day arrives, if you have planned and executed your plans, the day of the party should be stress-free and allow you to relax and have fun with everyone else! Be sure to take too many pictures and show your little one how much you love them. If other parents, adult family or friends attend, don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to them to help everything run smoothly!
