Be a Ninja, Try Our Obstacle Course!

Obstacle courses are fun activities for people of any age. No matter if you’re seven or 70, everyone can find obstacles courses fun. Whether you are participating or just watching, obstacles courses offer a form of entertainment that is hard to beat. If you are living in Edison, NJ, your local Rebounderz has an exciting obstacle course for your to try out.
In is blog, we will be discussing the benefits of an obstacles course and what you local Edison Rebounderz has to offer you and your family!

About Our Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course

Our obstacle course is called a Ninja Warrior Course, after the popular television show, American Ninja Warrior. In the show, contestants compete to finish a physically challenging obstacle course. The contestant with the fastest time, wins! Our course has some similarities to the television show, but it is not nearly as difficult. For instance, our obstacle course doesn’t include a swimming pool or a 10-foot wall to climb over. Instead, our obstacle course features small obstacles that only offer slight challenges to our “contestants.”

The Ranges of Difficulty

What makes our obstacle courses special is that we have ranges of difficulty. This means that based on your skill level you can choose a course that is either more or less challenging. By giving our customers options, we can ensure that no one will try an obstacle course that is too hard for them. Obstacle courses that are diverse in difficulty give our customers more obstacles courses to try out to determine their agility level. At our local Edison Rebounderz, our obstacle course has a total of four lanes of difficulty. But what’s included in our obstacle course?

What is Included in Our Course?

Our obstacle courses are jam-packed with many different and fun activities. Specifically, our obstacles courses have quad steps, hanging doors, and a swing to cargo netting. But that’s not all! Some of our courses other feature include:

  • Hanger with Pegs
  • Slack LInes
  • Warped Walls
  • A Spider Wall

What separates the New Jersey Rebounderz from other locations of our franchise is that we have the first ever spider wall built into our warrior course. So, if you would like to challenge yourself to try our spider wall — visit our trampoline park!

Benefits

The benefits of our ninja warrior course are obvious — fun, play, and exercise. It is nearly impossible to participate in our obstacle course and not get your heart pumping. Children need daily exercise, but sometimes, they don’t feel like they need to and would rather stay inside. At Rebounderz, we make staying active a fun experience. Instead of wanting to stay indoors and play video games or dolls, children can get excited to be active and try our obstacle course.
Though it might not seem like a big deal, children that don’t get their needed daily exercise are at a greater risk for developing terrible conditions. For one, childhood obesity is a major epidemic in America, as children are not eating the right foods or staying active every day. Aside from obesity, children could develop slower cognitive and motor skills. Without activity, your child could grow unhealthy and sluggish. But, of course, not being active doesn’t guarantee these outcome, but it does increase your child’s risk of developing these problems.
Our obstacle course allows your child to stay active in a fun way. Because we are able to make physical activity enjoyable, this would be considered a major benefit, however, there are other benefits too! For instance, our obstacle course can teach your children about competition and good sportsmanship. How?
Obstacle courses only work if children use them fairly and share the space with each other. So, not only will your child have to learn patience when using the obstacle course, but they can learn how to share with other children. Obstacle courses are more fun when two competitors race through the course. This “racing” can also teach your child about friendly competition.

Rates and Requirements for Participation

Typically, our Edison Rebounderz is open Tuesday through Sunday (at varying times). However, on October 8th, our indoor trampoline park is opening its doors from 10 am to 8 pm. During this time, you can utilize our indoor trampoline arena, as well as our ninja warrior course. While our obstacle course can be fun for anyone, Rebounderz has some requirements for our contestants. What Do You Do For the Fourth of July?

The Fourth of July is almost here! Now is the time to start planning for what you and your family are going to do on Independence Day. In years past, most of America celebrated its Independence by barbecuing and watching the fireworks. This year, the Fourth of July traditions that you know and love might be altered. This year, the holiday lands right in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday. Because most people have to work on the following day, many won’t celebrate the way they are used to.
In this blog, we will discuss come of the ways you can celebrate the Fourth of July, while still being able to return to work the next day in one piece.

July on a Wednesday?

Fourth of July is a beloved American tradition. Most people will grill meat up on their grills and kick back with a can of beer. However, due to the fact that this holiday is landing on a Wednesday, most people probably won’t leave their town for the holiday. So, instead of going on a picnic or traveling to a nearby beach or lake, most Americans are suspected to lounge at home.

What To Do?

Regardless of how you expect to celebrate the holiday, a day off is more than welcome for any full-time worker. However, the trick of this holiday will be how to enjoy the most out it. Because you can’t go on any extravagant trips or destinations, you might have to make the most of what you have. Besides, having a day off in the middle of the week may be a positive thing, as you will be able to spend more time with your kids while they are on summer break.

Beach or Lake Outing

One day may not seem like much, but you can actually do a lot in just one day. For instance, you can always go to the beach or a nearby lake to celebrate America. Going to the water is a great way to cool down and enjoy the July sun. At work, you never will get the opportunity to lounge around and experience the nature around you. The Fourth of July is an excellent opportunity to experience new things and soak in as much of the summer sun as possible before returning to work on Thursday morning.

Barbecue or Picnic

In 2016, it was found that 64 percent of Americans attended a barbeque or a picnic. Barbeques are a great way to reconnect with old friends and eat some of the most iconic American meals — hot dogs and hamburgers! Barbeques are so popular in the United States that there were nearly 36 million of them country-wide. This encouraged citizens to spend a total of $2 billion on the cookouts alone.
If you are interested in hosting a barbecue, you can enjoy the holiday to the fullest. Best of all, you don’t have to travel very far to enjoy a good barbeque. In fact, a great barbeque can be just in your backyard.
The only issue with a barbeque is that they can be pretty expensive and require pre-cleaning and post-cleaning of your home. Barbeques also mean that you will have to entertain a large number of people, which depending on your personality, could cause you stress.

Indoor Trampoline Park

If the summer sun is proving to be too much, and you have no interest in grilled meals or cold drinks, spending time with your kids is important. Because you don’t get that many paid days of vacation, it is important to utilize those days and spend them with your child. The summertime is a great season to engage with your child, especially when there is so much you can do both indoors and outdoors.
Indoor trampoline parks are an excellent way to spend time with your child, especially when it is too hot outside to do anything else. Best of all, trampoline parks are full of exciting activities that can entertain both you and your child for hours.

Rebounderz of Apopka

During the summer season come to Rebounderz of Apopka, FL. We have plenty of fun attractions and events planned throughout the summer. Bouncing together can create a great bond between you and your child. Enjoy your day off and come to our indoor trampoline park today.

At one point in time you must have thought it would be cool to be a ninja. Whether you thought of it as a kid watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or when you were older, watching movies like Mortal Kombat or American Ninja. Ninjas are undoubtedly cool, that opinion doesn’t change from when you are child to when you’ve grown into an adult. Ninjas are stealthy, quick, and can handle themselves against dark and evil forces — why wouldn’t you want to pretend to be that! The best part of being a ninja is that you hone your skills, face your challenges, and triumph over them.

At Rebounderz, we offer an attraction called the Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course. In the course, your kids can train like little ninjas and test their endurance. The Ninja Warrior course, is inspired by the television show, American Ninja Warrior. In the show male and female contestants compete and try to finish challenging obstacle courses. Whoever completes the course in the least amount of time, is crowned the winner. Though our contestants at Rebounderz don’t win money, they have the ability to compete against their peers and finish our obstacle course.

At the Ninja Warrior course we provide kids the opportunity to test their skills, patience, and ability to overcome their challenges. The course is meant to encourage children to participate in physical activity. Though the course is fun for kids, it also can be considered an exercising tool. The course itself takes a lot of energy and a little bit of sweat to complete. Because of this, your little ones can simultaneously workout and have fun at the same time.

While they are enjoying their time trying to complete the course, they also can be utilizing their imagination. At its core, the Ninja Warrior Course is designed to be fun, challenging, and encourage children to use their imagination. For example, they can imagine they are a young ninja warrior, training to defeat dark forces. Even if they aren’t imagining themselves as ninjas-in-training, the obstacle course is provoking your kids to use their imaginations and creative skills, which is exceptionally healthy for them developmentally.

Imagination is an important skill to develop because it involves the creation of new ideas. Though these ideas aren’t scientific, they are still valuable. When a child uses their mind to create new ideas and perceptions, they are using brain functioning which is helpful for brain development. By exercising their brain activity as children, later in life they will be able to formulate bigger, more effective ideas. By developing imaginative skills when they are younger, they will later be able to create useful ideas and implement them in their daily lives.

If you would like to encourage your child to exercise, have fun, and use their imaginations, Rebounderz is perfect! Your child can not only play on our trampoline arena, but climb through our Ninja Warrior Course. If you would like to encourage your child to be imaginative and active, stop by your local Newport News, Rebounderz! See for yourself the benefits an indoor trampoline park can give you!

If you couldn’t tell, we are big fans of American Ninja Warrior here at Rebounderz. That is why we have our own Grand Rapids ninja warrior course in our trampoline park! But the athletic machines on the show are still very different than the classical ninjas we have all mythologized. Probably one of the greatest mythological ninjas is Hattori Hanzo. If you’ve never heard about this legendary figure, read on for a quick overview of his life.

The Life

Hattori Hanzo was born to Hattori Hanzo Yasunaga, a samurai in the service of the clan that would later become the Tokugawa. He grew up in Iga, in the Mikawa Province. It was there that he fought his first battle at the young age of 16 during a nighttime attack on Udo Castle. During his young adult life, he would also successfully rescue Tokugawa’s daughters who were taken as hostages and successfully lay siege to Kakegawa Castle. Later, he would earn distinction in the battles of Anegawa and Mikatagahara.

It was at after the battle of Mikatagahara that Hattori was recognized for his battle prowess, and became the commander of an Iga ninja clan unit of 150 men. However, it was in the Tensho Iga War that Hattori really shined, despite the Iga clan’s ultimate defeat. Hattori Hanzo was able to repel Oda Nobukatsu from conquering Iga land at the behest of his father Oda Nobunaga. For almost three years after that, he defended the Iga clan until Oda Nobunaga wiped them all out in 1581. After the destruction of his clan, Hattori would go on to serve Tokugawa Ieyesu, protecting him and his family in many battles and through countless feats of strength, cunning, and bravery.

Mythology and Legacy

As Hattori Hanzo lived during the 16th century, all that we know about his life comes from writings. Suffice it to say, not all of those writings are believable. Various tales of his exploits recount different supernatural powers. These include teleportation, psychokinesis, and precognition. With all of that in mind, it is no wonder that he left such a legacy on our pop culture. He has made appearances in video games (most notable recent example being Nioh), been referenced in movies (Kill Bill’s Hattori Hanzo Sword), and has made his way into many pieces of literature as well.

In the actual world, Hattori Hanzo was succeeded by his son Masanari Hanzo. There are still many relics of Hanzo present in Japan today, including Hanzo’s Gate in Tokyo Imperial Palace and Hanzo’s spear that was given to him by Ieyesu Nobunaga.

Hopefully you enjoyed this quick historical overview of Hattori Hanzo, perhaps the greatest ninja to have ever lived. That is, until you came along and trained at our Grand Rapids ninja warrior course. We also have plenty of other trampoline park attractions, and even host kids’ birthday parties. If you have any questions about our location, attractions, or hours, please feel free to give us a call. One of our friendly representatives will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Who doesn’t love ninjas in this day and age? If the success of American Ninja Warrior is any indication, not many people! For those who don’t know, American Ninja Warrior is a show where athletes compete on an obstacle course, performing great feats of strength to get through them. Here at Rebounderz, we actually have our very own Grand Rapids ninja warrior course available to try for all the budding ninjas out there. But before you start training, maybe you would like to learn a little bit more about what it means to be a ninja. Here, we go over some of the tools and weapons commonly used by ninjas.

Shuriken

This is probably one of the more famous weapons historically used by ninjas. Known colloquially in America as the “throwing star”, the shuriken was actually commonly used by all warrior casts in Japan, not just ninjas. There are generally two types of shuriken, the plate type and stick type. The plate type is what people generally think of when they hear shuriken, and can be three pointed, four pointed, or eight pointed. The stick type looks like a sharp nail. It is harder to throw accurately, but also does more damage than a plate type shuriken.

Ninja Sword

Like their samurai counterparts, ninjas also carried swords. The kind of ninja swords that you will find today differ from samurai swords in that they are a bit shorter, and are straight instead of curved. However, these were made in the Edo period, after the heyday of the ninja. They are, however, the closest extant swords to what a ninja in the warring states period might have carried. Their shorter length was likely made for versatility, so it could be used in close quarters combat as well as in the open.

Kurasigama

This complex weapon is essentially a sickle attached to a chain attached to a weight. It was originally made from farm equipment, and indeed was used by the working rather than soldier class originally. Due to its versatility as a weapon and its ability to be concealed, it saw a lot of use by ninja clansmen. Generally, a ninja would swing the weighted end to either disarm an opponent or lock one of their limbs, then they would go in for the kill with the sickle. Most surviving kurasigamas from history were caste not by swordsmiths, but regular agricultural blacksmiths.

Kunai

Unlike the previous entries, the kunai has historically been used exclusively by the ninja. It is much like the stick type shuriken, except with a more blade like edge on one end and a metal ring on the other. This design allows the kunai to not only be used as a deadly throwing weapon, but also as a tool. For instance, rope could be put through the metal ring, so that the kunai could be thrown onto a ceiling or tree branch and used as a grapple. Kunai can also be wedged into walls to create footholds that allow ninja to climb up. Finally, the shape of kunai meant they could also be used as sharp daggers for extreme close quarters combat.

Makibishi

Makibishi are what we would call in America caltrops. They are just little spiky protrusions of metal that stick out every which way. The ninja would use them to escape from battle with whatever valuable information they had stolen. They would throw them on the ground, and the samurai giving chase would step on them. The sandals of the time were not made to withstand metal puncturing, and the samurai would be unable to give further chase. Makibishi were originally made out of the fruits of the water caltrop. These fruits are naturally hard and pointy, but when baked in the sun become hard enough to cut flesh.

Tekko-Kagi

They may look more suited to Wolverine, but the ninja were using metal claws as weapons long before the X-men came on the scene. However, like the kurasigama, the tekko-kagi are a reapplication of a farming tool. Originally used as a sickle to tear out weeds, tekko-kagi were easily re purposed into a brawling weapon. It would often be worn on both hands, which gave ninjas an edge when facing a samurai with a single sword. They could use one hand to defensively block a slash, while going in with their other hand for the kill.

Tekken

Like the tekko-kagi, tekken are a metal extension of the hand. In America, we call them brass knuckles. They are a metal bar that the hand fits through, so that metal protrusions stick out of the knuckles. They gained popularity with ninjas because they can be so easily concealed, are effective brawling weapons, and could even be used to stop a sword slice if absolutely necessary.

Manriki-Gusari

The manriki-gusari is much like the kurasigama in how it is put together. While the kurasigama is a sickle and a weight connected by a chain, the manriki-gusari is two metal weights connected by a chain. The length of chain in a manriki-gusari is considerably shorter than the kurasigama, however. Much like the kurasigama, it is easily concealable (more so, actually), and is used in combat in a similar way, with the weight being thrown either to injure to incapacitate a limb/weapon.

Kakute

A diabolical weapon, the kakute is reminiscent of the prank hand buzzer that sends a shock to an unsuspecting victim. However, unlike those joke gags, instead of a small current of electricity, kakute give you an inch of steel in your flesh. They are essentially just a ring with sharp metal spikes facing away from the palm. As such, they are almost impossible to spot as a weapon and easy to smuggle just about anywhere. In a fight, they are used to make blocks very painful and gouge into exposed flesh.

Amigasa

Common to monks, samurai, and ninja alike, the amigasa is a type of woven hat. If you’re having trouble picturing it, just think of the character Raiden from Mortal Combat. He wears an Amigasa in the video game. While prevalent in many castes of Japan, the amigasa worked well as a tool for ninja because it could be used to smuggle weapons and information. It could also be used to cover ones face by keeping the head at a slightly downward angle.

Wow, ninjas sure do have a lot of equipment to keep track of! Luckily, modern ninjas only need their body, mind, and of course a ninja obstacle course to gain fame. Make sure to come by our Grand Rapids trampoline park with our very own ninja warrior course to test out your ninja skills. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions about our location, hours, or attractions.
