Start Your New Year Off Right

The New Year is coming shortly, and this can be exciting for many people. A new year means new possibilities, new beginnings, and hope for the next year. The meaning behind New Year’s can mean different things to different people. For some, it can mean that a new year is beginning and can bring newer, positive changes. For a child, a new year means another year of life, growing older, and learning new things. No matter how you view a new year, it is a good idea to end one year and start off a new one the right way. And, what is the right way?
You want to start out your new year with fun and excitement. It is important that every new year starts positive and fun, because it sets the tone for the rest of the year. 2018 saw many challenges, but that doesn’t mean that the negative feelings of the past year need to follow you into the next. Participating in a fun activity is just what you need to start this new year right and remember all the important things in your life.
In this blog, we will be discussing some of the activities you can participate in to start your year off right. We hope, by reading this blog, you can get inspired by our list and begin this year with a sense of enthusiasm and excitement.

Go Bowling

Bowling is always a fun experience, especially for families. Whether you roll with bumpers or not, the game can be fun for all. Bowling can not only teach your children accuracy, but also how to take turns and engage in friendly competition. When you take your child to a bowling alley, they will be able to experience the fun of family events. Even better, bowling is extremely affordable, especially if you are looking for recreation for the whole family.

Go to the Movie Theater

Movie theaters are ideal because they can give you a quiet, dark place to get lost in a film. We suggest watching a heart-warming film or a comedy, however, as you want to maintain your positivity. Watching a horror movie or even a sad drama won’t make you feel quite as good when it is over.
Movie theaters can be a great place to get distracted from your day-to-day life and offer you something to be reflective on. For instance, if you like the film, you can think back on what you saw whenever you would like. Also, when you watch a movie with your family, it is an experience you all can share with each other.

Go to the Park

The park is a great place to go if you would like to take your child to play. Sometimes, starting your year off right is by doing something familiar or going somewhere you have been before. There is comfort in going to a familiar place, such as your local park. We do suggest, however, that if you and your children are headed to the park this January, you should bundle up. Winters in New Jersey can get cold!

Go Indoor Camping

It is much too cold right now to adventure off into nature. But, just because it is cold doesn’t mean you still can’t camp when you would like. Indoor camping is a fantastic way to start off your new year, in the comfort of your own home. So, what is indoor camping?
Indoor camping is when you convert your living room into your own campgrounds. Instead of pitching your tent up in the woods, you can do so right in the comfort of your living room. Not only is it warm in your home, but you can still access all of your essential snacks and games. The best part about indoor camping is that it is a special occasion and can be extremely fun. Best of all, you don’t have to make large expenses — except for the s’more ingredients, of course.

Indoor Trampoline Parks

Indoor trampoline parks are a great place to bring your kids to celebrate the new year. Not only will they be able to bounce their way into a new year, but they can spend their final moments of 2018 with you. Indoor trampoline parks offer a fun and exciting place for children to explore. Though 2018 might be drawing to a close, an indoor trampoline park might be the perfect way to end the year and start 2019.

Rebounderz of Edison

Rebounderz of Edison is here for your use. We have plenty of different attractions for your family to utilize at any time of the year. But, as 2018 draws to a close, ending it on “the right note” might be very much appreciated, especially if this year has been challenging for your family. The key to winning a game of dodgeball is throwing with precision and accuracy. If you don’t play baseball or basketball, that’s okay, a game of dodgeball is a little different anyway. With a little practice and remembering a few basics, you can throw the ball and hit your opponents every time, like a true battle-hardened dodgeball warrior. Join us in today’s post as we offer some tips about how to throw to win.

Hold the ball properly.

One of the biggest mistakes that dodgeball players make is executing too much catch and release type play. It may take a few extra seconds to maneuver the ball into a proper holding pattern before launching it at another player, but it is worth it. When you make sure that you are holding the ball properly before throwing it, you are better equipped to land a solid throw. To properly hold a squishy dodgeball, you will just want to ensure that you have a good, solid grip that will allow you to hurl the ball. Some people prefer to grasp the foam and throw, while others prefer to hold it flat-handed, similar to a football. Either way, make sure you hold it properly before your throw. If you don’t take the time to get your grip, you end up tossing a gentle pitch that can easily be dodged or, worse, caught.

Point to aim.

Use your other arm to point to where you are going to throw the ball. Many sports teach this throwing technique, but it is especially important in dodgeball where your targets are always moving. It becomes even more critical to landing your throws when you are also attempting to coordinate your balance on a trampoline during a game of trampoline dodgeball! When you are leaping all over the place rather than standing still, it can be tricky to get the ball to go where you want it to. Simply use your other arm to aim, then launch and release.

Err on the side of “too low.”

In dodgeball, whether in a gym or on a trampoline, it is best to aim low. Not only do headshots not count, but they can be dangerous. A hit to the calf will get your opponent out just as well as one to the shoulder. When you are playing trampoline dodgeball, your opponents will be rebounding just like you, so aiming low can catch them mid-bounce. Balls that are aimed low are much more difficult for the receiver to catch, which in the game of dodgeball is a good thing. Of course, when you aim low, try not to aim too low where you run the risk of throwing it at the floor, causing a dead ball.

Hot potato.

Do not hold on to the ball longer than you have to! The whole point of dodgeball is to hit opposing players with the balls to get them out of play. The longer you are holding on to a ball, the longer your opponents are in play and plotting how to get you out. Don’t give them the opportunity — adopt a hot-potato policy with your dodgeballs and attempt to get rid of them as quickly as you can. Having empty hands also helps you catch incoming balls, which helps you get more opponents out and gets your team members back in play.

Bounce, duck, dip, dive, dodge.

Dodgeball is a thrilling game that is based on the ability of each player to launch the dodgeball like a cannon at their opponents until there is only one player left standing (or rebounding). At Rebounderz of Grand Rapids, we like to turn the fun factor up a few notches by offering dodgeball games on our trampoline dodgeball court! Our specially designed trampoline dodgeball courts are complete with netted walls to keep the balls contained and feature proper court measurements. Our staff provides neutral referees who also explain the rules and ensure the safety of all player. Laser tag is a fun game for kids of all ages to play. Not only does it challenge your critical thinking and reaction skills, but it also takes quite a bit of physical effort to really perform well. While you could just pick up a laser tag gun and hit the course, a little tactile preparation will help you win the battle and make you a formidable opponent. Join us in today’s post as we discuss some of the tactical essentials to winning a round of laser tag.

Rally the troops.

Many times, laser tag games are played with teams made up of random players who all just happen to be ready to play at the same time. Teams will consist of players ranging in age, experience, and skill level. This is all part of the fun. However, like all good teams, to have a shot at winning, players must all be on the same page. Exercise leadership and rally your teammates before the round begins. Make sure everyone understands how to use their weapon and who is on the team — avoid friendly fire! Here, you can identify players strengths and weaknesses.

Conduct pre-battle checks.

Before the round begins, check your equipment. Make sure it is working and the vest is securely fastened to you. Make sure your hair isn’t obstructing your view and your shoes are tied. Check to make sure there is nothing that will fall off you while you play and take off any jackets that will only make you hotter during play. And, right before you enter the laser tag arena, check your ego at the door. Competition and winning are fun, but it is just a game! Have fun with it.

Keep a low profile.

Laser tag is all about moving and hunting your opponents. Not only is it no fun to find a hiding place and hunker down, but some people would consider it cheating. Head into battle with a solid movement plan that includes tactical movements that keep you from being hit. Move in fast, short bursts from one safe spot to the next, and when you can crawl to keep a low profile. Staying low will prevent you from being easily seen.

Cover your buddy.

Before the round begins, your team should break off into pairs. Players should move in buddy teams so that they can cover each other during movement and create 360-degree defense when you are still. You and your partner should watch as each other moves and lay suppressive fire to prevent the player who is moving from being hit by an opponent. When you cover each other’s movements, you can move quicker and safer.

Make it rain.

The fun part about laser tag is it isn’t real ammunition and reloading your weapon doesn’t take long. Since this is the case, there is no reason to conserve ammunition, so don’t! Maintain a steady round of firing that is sure to hit any player within range of your weapon. Harness the power of your weapon and make it rain laser rounds the entire game. Fire all your rounds, quickly reload and do it again. Your opponents will be hard pressed to charge you if you are continually firing. This is also tactically proficient in ensuring that even if your opponent does get a hit on you, you can return the favor.

Become an expert shot.

The key to winning laser tag is shooting with precision and accuracy. If you have never fired a weapon before, that’s okay, laser tag guns are extremely forgiving. But, with a little practice and remembering a few marksmanship basics, you can wield your laser tag gun like a true battle-hardened warrior. Unfortunately, when you play laser tag, you will be playing with a laser tag gun that cannot be calibrated or adjusted to you. You’ll just pick up a gun and go. This is where the application of Kentucky windage will come into play. The principal is fairly simple, since you cannot adjust the weapon, you’ll have to adjust your shot instead. Focus on a target and fire, notice where the shot hits. When you have identified where the shots are being fired, you can then adjust your aim to counter it. For instance, if you shoot dead center at your target and all of your hits are up and to the left, you can adjust your aim down and to the right to hit dead center.

Laser tag is an enjoyable game for small kids as well as grown adults. If you are looking to challenge your friends to a round of laser tag, head to your local family entertainment center like Rebounderz! For more information about our laser tag game, visit us online or stop by today!

Because health and wellness shouldn’t focus only on how much you weigh!

New Year’s resolutions are being made and intentions are being conjured and most are glaringly made in the name of traditional beauty standards — for men it’s being ripped from head-to-toe and for women it’s being skinny and toned — but this fitspo in the new year is pretty exclusive and alienates much of the “real” representation of the American population.

At Rebounderz Sunrise, our facility welcomes everyone for an amazingly fun experience that is good for the body, too! With options for the whole family — from a Ninja Warrior Course and JumpXTREME Tower to an air pit and open jump area, our indoor trampoline park is a great place to play in the new year. So go ahead, and venture into ways movement and fitness is great for you and without staying so focused on your body.

How Movement and Exercise Add to Your Health (That Doesn’t Have to do With Your Body)

We get it, everyone wants to look amazing and fit into this ever-changing ideal of what traditional beauty is. But as we move away from our looks and into how we feel, we begin to create a healthier, more loving relationships with our bodies. It’s important to cultivate healthy eating and lifestyle habits too, but in the new year be kinder and more aware of your body. Below is just a splattering of what fitness can do for our health that doesn’t require losing weight or gaining a mass amount of muscle.

Sleep like a baby.

How does a restful night of sleep sound? For many adults, sleep disruptions are a common issue that leaves us fatigued and in a fog most of the time. And for kids, if they’re sleep deprived it can affect their growth and maturity and set them up for a host of academic issues. So, get more sleep! Exercise and movement is a perfect remedy to this. Exercise has both long- and short-term effects on sleep — not only does it prepare our bodies to fall asleep more quickly and sleep through the night, but then the next day we feel and function much more clearly.

Some forms of exercise such as yoga can actually calm your nerves and stress response — lulling you to sleep. So after an energetic visit to our indoor trampoline park, do a short yoga flow before bed to calm and relax your body.

Improve how you feel.

Especially around and after the holidays you can feel depleted and drained, both physically and emotionally. Invest in yourself and get some additional movement in to boost and release endorphins. When we begin to get better and more consistent in our exercise something truly magical happens — we feel better. Our bodies love it and our emotional health gets boosted by the lovely and adoring endorphins. So if you need an uplift in your life, exercise is one sure — and science-backed — way to do it.

Tackle Your Stress (Once and For All)

Stress is a nasty little bugger — stress ruins our immune system and over time can cause a whole slew of health complications — hello heart attacks and high blood pressure. If you struggle with stress, and we all do, get active. Focus on activity that makes you feel good. Our indoor trampoline park is a great way to connect with those you love, have a good laugh, and enjoy some healthy activity. Some other great ways to reduce your stress through movement is yoga, long, peaceful strolls, and swimming.

Get in tune.

When you begin to get active, you begin to tap into and understand what your body is telling you. You know what pushing your body may feel like when you experience muscle soreness or when you can up your game and dig in a little deeper. Exercise may even boost your confidence, regardless of the number on the scale.

Become more creative and productive.

When you move, you get things flowing — your blood oxygen levels increase and your lymph freely flows spurring the natural detoxification process — your body is beginning to wake up! If you’ve been in a slump, we know the shorter days combined with the holidays can really do a number, try getting more activity in. Increased activity can also spark your creativity and productivity! Many people who are consistent in their exercise routine report being more focused and productive at work and even more creative. Find a solution in movement when things are stale and need to be reimagined.

Reignite your motivation.

The holidays can drag you down — you’re eating a ton of treats and dealing with family — you’re just trying to survive. When things wind down, just get out and move, or even better, try it during the holidays. Sneak away and take the dog for a walk while the cookies are baking or grab a couple of friends and have a fitness night out — jump and bounce around at Rebounderz! There is nothing better than moving to gain motivation. Getting active and gaining better acceptance of your body, actually motivates you more to continue! The better you feel, the more likely you’ll keep doing it!

Momement, fitness, exercise — whatever you want to call it — reaches far beyond how much you weigh and what you look like. It is beneficial for so many more things that aren’t focused on your body. So get out and get moving in the new year.
