Indoor Trampoline Park

Here at Rebounderz of Newport News, there is plenty of action to be had. There are plenty of cool tricks and jumping action that you can try out. From the JumpXtreme Tower to the jump area, you can find the perfect activity for you at our trampoline park. While some trampoline parks may not allow front or backflips at their facilities, here at Rebounderz, we encourage you to have some extreme trampoline fun.

This means that frontflips are more than just feasible, they’re totally worth trying.

However, before we go over the basics of how to do a front or backflip at Rebounderz, let’s cover a few of the rules we have here that you will need to keep in mind.

  • Only do single flips, not doubles. It may be fun to try a double flip, but they are against the rules.
  • Always land on two feet.
  • No double bouncing. Yes, we know you could get more height with a double bounce, but that’s strictly prohibited.
  • If you fall, tuck your arms in. While it may seem natural to reach out if you miss you landing, try not to. Tuck your arms in to protect your wrists.
  • Last, but not least, always listen to the Referee.

The Art of the Frontflip

When you’re at a trampoline park like Rebounderz, it’s actually very simple to do a frontflip if you know what you need to do. In order to give one a try for the first time, find a nice, quiet spot with plenty of space around you. Get comfortable and simply work on a good bounce. Practice getting a nice, high bounce in one spot. Once you feel comfortable with your bounce, it’s time to give a flip a try.

For your frontflip, simply get your bounce going. After a few good bounces, at the top of your bounce, bring your knees into a gentle tuck and throw your arms down from up by your ears towards your knees. Tuck your chin down towards your chest at the same time. This motion allows your arms and head to guide where you body goes and help you make a full rotation. Try and spot the ground and kick your legs back out as the ground comes back around. Allow your arms to go out, like if you were on a balance beam, to help you gain your balance. Remember to bend your knees as you land.

A backflip is very similar, but your motions are a little bit reversed. Once again, get comfortable bouncing. At the top of your bounce, leave your arms up above your head and bring your knees up to your chest, letting your head go backwards a little to look where you want to go. Again, kick out as you spot the ground and feel your single rotation coming to an end.

There are many ways to adapt a single rotation flip, both forwards and backwards, into other tricks that are a blast to try at Rebounderz of Newport News. A couple ways would be to try doing a flip in a pike position or a layout position instead of a tuck. In a pike, you keep your legs straight, and bend in half at the hips. For a layout, you don’t bend at all but make a full rotation in a flat position. You can also add twists to your flips. Twists are added solely with arm control. If you were to do a backflip with any form of twist, you simply bring your arms upwards on the bounce, start the flip and then bring one arm across your chest in the direction you want to twist. The other arm goes backwards into a folded position behind your head. The amount of force you give your twist and the amount of airtime for your flip will dictate the number of twists you can get in.

Here at Rebounderz, we love to push the level of skill of all our guests and let you try new things that you feel comfortable with. Feel free to practice your flips at our Newport News Rebounderz location, but remember to always follow the rules and the Referee’s directions. Come play at Rebounderz today!

When we were kids, staying fit was frequently easy. You could run around outside with your friends, ride your bike for hours, the possibilities were endless. As adults, it’s a good bit tougher for two reasons. First, we have more responsibilities and less time. Second, we often think of exercise as a grimly serious undertaking. It doesn’t have to be, and one of the best ways to do that is with exercise at a trampoline place.

More people than ever are opting to exercise while bouncing, and it’s easy to see why. You’re able to lose weight, strengthen muscles and joints, improving the lymphatic system and balance, and ward off depression. Trampoline workouts don’t feel like a workout because they’re fun! As a result, more people stick to exercising on a trampoline instead of giving up.

So how, exactly, do you exercise on a trampoline? Glad you asked…

  • First, start simple and imitate the motions of jumping without actually lifting off the surface of the trampoline. Once you get comfortable, increase the intensity until you’re comfortable jumping. Then, push yourself to jump a little higher gradually. On its own, jumping is a terrific workout for your core and many parts of the lower body. By simply doing that, you’ll work up a sweat.
  • Next, try doing a mid-air twist. While you’re jumping, rotate your core from side to side. When you twist your core during a jump, your lats and abdominal muscles are getting an excellent workout.
  • Running is excellent cardiovascular exercise, but not all of us are into it. Try running in place while you’re on a full-size trampoline or a rebounder. If you start to get a little bored, try either alternating between running and jumping or adding knee slaps.
  • Jumping jacks on their own tend to be good exercise, but the impact with the ground can be tough on your joints. Instead, try doing them on a trampoline, but keep in mind that you may want to only use a full-size trampoline for this exercise instead of a rebounder. That’s because you can get some serious air, and if you slip, a rebounder doesn’t give you the space to just bounce harmlessly.
  • However, if you only have access to a rebounder, a great workout is side to side hopping. Instead of bouncing on a single spot, you’ll jump from left to right. In one variation, you actually jump off one side, jump back onto the rebounder, then hop off the other side. This workout is more intense and much faster paced.
  • Looking to give your upper body a solid workout? While you’re running in place or jumping, also use some low-weight dumbbells simultaneously. A quick search on your favorite search engine will show you a number of different exercises you can do.
  • If you’re at an indoor trampoline park exercising, one essential routine is the seat drop. It’s simple, you just jump up, but instead of landing on your feet, stretch your legs out and land on your seat. Then, on the rebound bounce, land on your feet and jump again. You’ll just alternate between seated and standing positions. This routine will help to increase your balance and also boost your endurance.

Suppose you’re tasked to take your kids to an indoor trampoline park, for either a birthday party or to let them go nuts for an hour or two and burn off some of their energy. You have a very simple plan, which consists of your kids bouncing for a while as you get a little work done or catch up on the news. But your kids, as they so often do, have other ideas. “Please please please jump with us!” Reluctantly, you agree.
We see this all the time, parents staring into the middle distance as they take their shoes off, psyching themselves up for an hour of…jumping. But time spent bouncing with the kids can be about more than just going up and down. Keep reading, and we’ll share seven games from childhood that have been repurposed for the trampoline.

#1 Bounce Battle
A great game for 2 is the Bounce Battle. It seems easy, but it’s all about endurance and willpower. Simply put, both players face each other off and do seat drops. Seat drops are every time when you land on the trampoline, you are in a sitting position. When you bounce back up you have to launch yourself with your whole body to keep the momentum going. If you stop bouncing, you lose. If you slip and go down, you lose. To succeed in bounce battle dominance, you need to have the patience to pace yourself, the coordination to not fall, and the endurance to keep going.

#2 Simon Says
For smaller kids, and groups of 3 or more, “Simon Says” is not only a classic, it’s also a great way to get the giggles out by acting silly. One person is Simon, and they give a series of commands while saying, “Simon says.” Everyone else must follow the command, but only if Simon says, “Simon says.” After the kids get the hang of it, we recommend that Simon say the commands faster and faster, for maximum humor.

#3 Hot Potato
We’re not sure exactly why, but kids absolutely love playing Hot Potato. Get a group of kids together with a big and bouncy ball. The ball has to be passed around while jumping. You can’t hold the ball for more than 2 seconds, and you must always be in motion. If someone drops the ball, holds the ball or stays still for too long, they’re out. The last one with the ball wins. Factoring in the trampoline makes things really fun.

#4 Dance Battle
Once you get on a trampoline and start jumping, you’ll start to notice a rhythm. You can take that rhythm to the next level by throwing in some dance moves. More and more, trampoline parks have music nights, where guests can enjoy fast-paced beats while bouncing. Encourage your kids to dance like nobody’s watching. Better yet, encourage everyone to watch and challenge them to a dance battle.

#5 Poison Ball
For groups of children on a trampoline with a larger surface area, Poison Ball (or stuffed animal or balloon) is a fun game to keep the kids moving. Simply put several soft objects, such as squishy balls into the middle of the playing area and have all the children stand in a circle around. When you yell start, everyone has to start jumping, and naturally the objects will start bouncing! But they are poison, you must not touch them! If someone gets tagged by an object, they have to sit down until someone else can come over and “revive” them with a high five

#6 Crack the Egg
Children of all ages seem to respond well to Crack the Egg, also known as Pop the Popcorn. One person sits down in the middle of the trampoline in a sitting fetal position with their arms wrapped tightly around their legs. (Safety note- instruct the egg not to tuck their face into their legs, lest they take a knee to the eye!) Everyone else jumps around the egg trying to bounce them into breaking the hold on their legs. At first it may seem easy, but when everyone gets to jumping, the egg will bounce, and attempt to catch themselves. Once the egg is cracked, they can’t help but flail about! When the egg is cracked, pick someone else to try.

#7 Dodge ball
When it comes to trampoline games, there’s one game that stands above the others, and it’s the game that trampolines were probably designed for. We are, of course, talking about dodge ball. But trampoline dodge ball takes it to another level because it combines hand-eye coordination, balance, and spatial recognition. You have to be able to jump, aim, and throw a foam ball, all at the same time you are dodging your opponent’s throws. If you haven’t played, divide up your group into 2 teams, and line up on both sides of the trampoline court. Pass out the foam balls and start hurling them at the other side. If you get hit, you’re out, but you can catch a ball and throw it back. Last person standing wins for the team.

There are many games to play on a trampoline, but be mindful of safety. It is not a good idea to play games that require someone to close their eyes, jump over another bouncer, or tackle opponents. If you are playing on a backyard trampoline, it is a good idea to keep the number of players to a minimum and have a trampoline net to help catch stray jumpers. Indoor trampoline parks are much safer than backyard trampolines for playing the games we have listed. At Rebounderz Indoor Trampoline Arena in Grand Rapids, safety is our main concern. We also have areas for additional team games such as a trampoline basketball court. Call us to reserve your group’s spot today!

If you’re like most adults, the only time you’ll set foot in an indoor trampoline park is either for a kid’s birthday party or as a way to keep your own kids busy for a few hours. While your children go berserk, you relax, check out the news on your smartphone, or chat with the other parents. Then you see it. Another parent, an adult, also bouncing around with the kids. Before sneering at them or whispering, “Get a load of that guy,” take a moment to consider something.

Yes, they might look a little goofy. Yes, they’re maybe not behaving with the decorum that most grown-ups have. But they’re getting something that you might not be, a number of things, actually. Keep reading, and we’ll share with you 5 benefits you’ll gain by getting your shoes off and getting your body out onto the trampoline.

  1. First of all, you’ll be getting an intense full-body workout. These are trendy nowadays, and for good reason. Scientific research tells us that muscle growth can be highly stimulated by neuromuscular movement. When you’re on a trampoline, you’re engaged in what’s called “explosive jumping.” You’re using all of your muscles because you need to time it just right to bounce properly. As a result, calves, quads, biceps, shoulders, pecs, glutes, and core all get a great workout.
  2. We apologize, but we’re going to get a little technical here. The lymph system in your body is designed to remove debris and toxins from your tissues and get them out via the excretory system. That debris goes through lymph vessels, which run parallel to you blood vessels. While the heart powers blood vessels, there’s nothing like that for lymph vessels, except gravity. When you bounce, it circulates the lymph vessels more effectively.
  3. For most of human history, we’ve been walkers. On average, we walked between 3-9 miles daily, and among other things, that exercise kept muscle groups in our ankles and feet strong and gave us good balance. With today’s sedentary lifestyle, we have less strength, worse balance, and greater odds of falling or breaking a hip. Trampoline exercises can change that, though.
  4. Almost everybody who has spent even a few minutes on a trampoline can agree on one thing. It’s exhausting, and you’ll likely be working to get your breath back. Trampoline jumping is an excellent way to get a solid cardio workout. Also, if you’re on a treadmill or exercycle, a few minutes can feel like a slog. That’s because you’re bored, and when you’re bouncing and having a blast, the time will fly by.
  5. Speaking of fun, one of the biggest reasons that exercise regimes break down for people is a simple one. Doing a workout can be incredibly boring, particularly if you’re by yourself. But when you’re on a trampoline with your kids, your spouse, or your friends, the endorphins start pumping, and you start to enjoy yourself. By combining exercise with a necessary social connection, you might find yourself dragging the kids to the trampoline park instead of the other way around.
